White Sands Mesh Shawl

White Sands Mesh Shawl

finished size approx. 65 in. by 12 in.

Materials:
Size H (5 mm) hook
Worsted Weight yarn, approx. 6 oz. or 300 yds.
(I used Peaches and Cream Cotton in White.)

Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
Sc: single crochet
St: stitch
Sl st: slip stitch
Sk: skip
Ch2sp: Chain 2 space

Special Stitches:
Picot: sc in next st, ch 3, sl st in front loop and left front bar of sc just completed. (For an excellent video tutorial of this stitch, go to http://www.nexstitch.com/v_picot_stitch.html)

Instructions:
Ch 59.

Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next stitch, repeat across from * to end (19 dc, 18 ch2sp total) . Turn.

Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch2) , dc in dc, *ch 2, dc in dc, repeat from * to end, making final dc in the 3rd ch of ch5 from previous row. Turn.

Row 3-90: Repeat Row 2. (To make a longer or shorter scarf, simply increase or decrease number of row repeats.) Turn. Do not fasten off yarn.

Edging:
Row 1 (rs): Ch 1, *2 sc in ch2sp, sc in dc, repeat from * to last ch2sp, sc 2 in last sp, sc in 3rd ch of ch5 (54 sc total).Turn.

Row 2 (ws): Ch 1, sc in each st to end (54 sc total). Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc 3, *ch 7, sk 3 sc, sc 3, repeat from * 7 times to end. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 stitches,* ch 4, sc in 4th ch of ch7 in row below, ch 4, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, sk 1 sc, repeat from * 6 times. Ch 4, sc in 4th ch of ch7, ch 4, sk 1 st, sc in last 2 stitches. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 4, sc in sc, picot, ch 4, sl st in next sc, repeat from * 7 times to end. Fasten off.

To work edging on the other end of the shawl, join yarn at end of foundation ch and work edging across as for the opposite side, being sure to match right sides of the piece.
