Diamonds for Baby Afghan

Size:Approximately 37×34 inches

Materials: Lion Brand Pound of Love (in color of choice) and a few ounces of equal weight baby yarn in a coordinating color for edging, Hook size I/9 5.5mmSpecial Abbreviation“Bobble” = work 5 tr into ch space 2 rows below until 1 loop of each tr remains on hook, yo and through all 6 loops on hook.

Instructions

Ch 114.

Main Body:

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, ch1 and sk next ch. *Sc in next 11 ch, ch 1 and sk next ch; repeat from * to last 2 ch. Sc in last 2 ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), sk first sc, work dc in next sc, ch 1, sk ch space. *Dc in next 11 sc, ch 1, sk ch space; repeat from * to last 2 sc. Dc into last 2 sc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, work 1 bobble into ch space 2 rows below (row 1). *Sc into next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next 7 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc, work bobble in next ch sp 2 rows below; repeat from * to last 2 dc. Sc into next dc, sc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, sk first sc, dc into next 3 stitches. *Ch 1, sk ch space, dc into next 7 scs, ch 1, sk ch pace, dc into next 3 stitches; repeat from * to last sc, dc into last sc, turn. 

Row 5: Ch 1, sc into first 4 dc. *Work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, sc in next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next 3 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc, work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, sc into next 3 dc; repeat from * to last stitch, sc into turning ch, turn.Row 6: Ch 3, sk first sc, dc into next 5 stitches. *Ch 1, skip ch space, dc into next 3 sc, ch 1, sk ch space, dc into next 7 stitches; repeat from * to end, omitting I dc at end of last repetition, turn.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc into first 6 dc. *Work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, 1 sc into next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc, work bobble into next ch space 2 rows below, sc into next 7 dc; repeat from * to end, omitting 1 sc at end of last rep, turn.
Row 8: Ch 3, sk first sc, dc into next 7 stitches, ch 1, sk ch space. *Dc into next 11 stitches, ch 1, sk ch space; repeat from * to last 8 stitches, dc into last 8 stitches, turn.

Row 9: Ch 1, sc into first 6 dc. *Ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc, work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, sc into next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next 7 dc; repeat from * to end, omitting 1 sc at end of last repetition, turn.

Row 10: Repeat Row 6.

Row 11: Ch 1, sc into first 4 dc. *Ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc, work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, sc into each of next 3 dc, work bobble into next ch space 2 rows below, sc into next dc, ch, sk 1 dc, sc into next 3 dc; repeat from * to last dc, sc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 12: Repeat Row 4.

Row 13: Ch 1, sc into first 2 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc. *Work bobble into ch space 2 rows below, sc into next 7 dc, work bobble into next ch space 2 rows below, sc into next dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc into next dc; repeat from * to last dc, sc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 14: Repeat Row 2

Row 15: Ch 1, sc in first 2 dc, work 1 bobble into ch space 2 rows below (row 1). *Sc into next 11 dc, work bobble in next ch sp 2 rows below; repeat from * to last 2 dc. Sc into next dc, sc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 16: Ch 3, sk first sc, dc into next sc. Work one dc into each stitch to end. Turn.

Row 17: Ch 1, sc into each dc across.

Rows 18-28: Repeat alternating rows 16 and 17.

Row 29: Ch 1, sc into first 2 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc, *sc into next 11 dc, ch 1, sk 1 dc; repeat from * to last two dc, sc in last 2 dc, turn.

***For the remainder of the blanket, you will repeat this pattern, starting with Row 2 and ending with Row 29 two (2) times. Then you will repeat Rows 2 through 15 once more the complete the pattern. Turn work so that the wrong side is facing you and do one row of sc. Fasten off.

Edging:

Round 1: In coordinating color, attach new yarn at corner (right side facing) and do sc evenly around blanket, putting 3 sc in each corner stitch. Join with sl st in first sc, do not turn

Round 2: Ch 1. Stitch sc around as in Round 1. Join with sl st in first sc..

Round 3: Ch. 3, skip sc. *Dc, ch 2, dc in next sc (ch2 v-stitch), skip next sc. Repeat from * around to end, join with sl st in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

  1. I have a friend who is working up this pattern as we speak (I don’t crochet yet). She’s is looking for a sweater, bonnet and booties to match. Have you given any thought to designing a set to match the blanket? She’s just in love with this pattern!
